The Duchess of Malfi at the RSC

John Webster’s play ‘The Duchess of Malfi’ opens at the RSC on March 1st in the Swan Theatre.

Webster was born 16 years after Shakespeare.  You may remember him from the film ‘Shakespeare in Love’ portrayed as the young street urchin who enjoys feeding live mice to cats.

The characters in Webster’s plays tend to meet rather gruesome ends and in ‘The Duchess of Malfi’, two corrupt brothers take revenge on their sister for marrying below her class.  The play is full of grotesque violence, toxic masculinity and dark humour.

Directed by Maria Aberg and starring Joan Iyiola as the Duchess, the play runs until August 3rd.

Ambleside Guest House is just a few minutes’ walk from the RSC.  Click here to view our rooms.

Festival of Motoring – April 30 and May 1

Snow in Summer at the RSC

Outstanding – August 27th

This is an absolute gem of a guest house. Peter and Ruth are very warm and welcoming and extremely helpful. The rates are reasonable, it is spotlessly clean, the rooms are delightfully decorated and offer every convenience and the breakfast is very tasty. No wonder is has an AA Four Star Award rating! I had my Brompton Bicycle with me and a safe and secure spot was found for it. Absolutely outstanding service even down to being supplied with some antihistamines as the shops were not yet open! Also, it is very close to the town centre and other amenities. Will definitely return!
